Volunteers make all the difference, in building momentum, and in helping children and families feel seen, safe, and supported.

Volunteer Opportunities

We rely on our community to uplift others. Our volunteers help strengthen our ties to the communities we call home. From volunteering at events to directly working with children, youth, and their families, we have a wide range of volunteer opportunities, or internship possibilities available.

Take a look at our current roles and make sure to check back regularly for new opportunities, or connect with our Director of Advocacy with ideas you have to help!

Due to the complexity and specialized nature of our work, candidates for certain roles are selected for interviews based on a combination of their educational, professional, volunteer, and personal experience. All volunteers must pass a criminal background check, and central registry clearance through MDDHS. Volunteers may also be subject to fingerprinting to work with children and families.

Family Advocate

Family Advocates provide support, information, and resources to children, youth, and families referred to our child advocacy center. These referrals are in response to investigations regarding child abuse and neglect. Advocates work with families to assess for safety, identify areas of needed support, and offer assistance as the case continues, including court accompaniment.

Family Advocates must commit to an initial 24 hours of training in the field of victim services, and can commit to roughly 2 hours a week, or one family appointment.

Administrative Support

Administrative support volunteers can help with a number of office related tasks including preparing mailings, organizing supplies, and offering assistance with data entry.

Center Care & Keeping

We would love support with keeping the center clean and tidy if you’re interested in doing light housekeeping like sweeping, vacuuming, disinfecting surfaces, etc. Or in landscaping or gardening we would welcome any support.

Court Appointed Special Advocates

CASAs are dedicated volunteers that are trained under a national model to provide person-first, trauma and culturally-informed advocacy for children in the foster care system. CASAs are partnered with kids and youth in foster care and meet every 7-10 days to build relationships, and advocate for that youth’s best interest by submitting brief court reports, and meeting with foster parents, placements programs, and professionals assigned to their case.

CASAs must commit to an initial 30 hours of training before being sworn in by a judge to provide services. Following swear-in, CASAs are assigned 1-3 children to support and are asked to stay as a consistent person in that child’s life through finding a safe permanent home, often 1-3 years. A minimum one year commitment is requested in good faith to ensure kids have consistency.

Community Connector

Become a community connector! Help us spread awareness of our programs and services, represent us at resource and networking events, and help set-up meetings with the people in your sphere of influence. We would love the opportunity to meet friends in faith communities and churches, in social groups, local businesses, and more. Being a connector goes a long way in setting us up for success because it rallies people around our cause to make a difference.

Internships

The Voice for Clinton County’s Children offers internship placements through our Victim Services/ Family Advocacy Program. Students in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Sociology are great fits.

Please note that The Voice for Clinton County’s Children does not offer counselling placements at this time.

Event Volunteer

Want to support VCCC but can’t currently make a long-term commitment? Consider becoming an Event Volunteer! Help us with our yearly fundraising event - the Superhero 5K, or help at our Toys for Tots drive and distribution. Help to set up events, clean after, help at registration and check, and more.
